Our mission
The mission of the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts, “where talent develops and creativity thrives,” is to enrich lives by providing opportunities to develop creative talents and encourage a greater appreciation of the arts through both instruction and performance.
Students study with professional musicians, artists and educators in an environment built around encouragement rather than competition — whether they are three years old or ninety.
Our history
Founded by Dr. Theodore K. Schlosberg, the Workshop grew from a handful of music students into a full community arts school offering instruction in music, visual arts and dance, plus ensembles, camps and in-school programs across the region.
Access for every student
Financial aid, instrument donations and the Music Connection scholarship program keep our doors open to families who might otherwise go without. The Music Connection combines music therapy with personalized instruction for students with autism spectrum disorder and other disabilities.
Community outreach
Music and art shouldn't stop at our door. Our performers bring concerts and workshops to veterans, seniors, libraries, schools and community organizations across Union County — from brass quintets at care communities and the VA to instrumental petting zoos at local fairs. Many programs are offered at no charge to the groups that host us.

Our programs are made possible in part by funds from the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, along with the generosity of individual donors and volunteers.
